In order to work for an agency like SLPS, you need to obtain the appropriate state license and/or credential. Your university should submit the appropriate documentation to your state’s credentialing board if you’ve completed a credentialing program. If licensure is required, you will need to obtain your temporary or permanent state license prior to starting your assignment. This process often takes 4-6 weeks. SLPS will help guide you through this process from start to finish ensuring that you can start sooner rather than later. Please see these websites for further information:
At SLPS, we understand that this process can appear to be overwhelming. Our staff of licensed SLP’s has been through this process numerous times and will assist you every step of the way.

SLPS will always arrange for a licensed SLP to be your CFY supervisor. Your supervisor is often an SLP that works at your placement and is familiar with that facilities paperwork, procedures, etc. In addition to your CFY supervisor, SLPS will provide ongoing support by other licensed SLP’s. To put it simply, SLPS makes sure you will not feel alone! We will guide you through the entire hiring process from beginning to end.

It is important that you ask the right questions during a thorough interview with the company and/or facility you are interested in.

- When interviewing with an agency or facility, it is very important that you interview them as well. SLPS creates relationships with new therapists that are candid and accurate. We pride ourselves on providing specifics to assignments and holding the facility and ourselves accountable. Our company never expects to place a therapist until they are fully aware of the assignment’s expectations. This will help ensure a synergistic relationship between you the therapist, SLPS, and the facility.
- Rate of pay: Believe it or not, some agencies will ask clinicians to commit to a job and sign a contract PRIOR to telling them what they’ll be paid. This practice can lead to an unhappy therapist who is not being paid adequately. SLPS will always provide you with a specific rate of pay PRIOR to any type of commitment.
- Specifics of benefits: Some agencies will give you an “idea” of what you’ll get without being specific. Other times, agencies will offer so many different scenarios and packages that you really don’t know what you’re getting. SLPS will clearly outline and define EXACTLY what your benefits are PRIOR to you joining our team.
- Do the math: When you are offered a specific “perk” or benefit, be sure it’s a perk that benefits you. Do the math to find out just what the perk is worth and if you need it. You may find that it “sounds” good at first, but doesn’t have much “true value” once you do the math.
- Details of assignment: It is very important to get as many details of an assignment as possible. This will help ensure that you are getting the placement that fits your needs. SLPS will work diligently to gather this information for you and set you up with an interview. This gives you the opportunity to also interview them about any specific questions you feel are important in an assignment.
- Type of support: Agency support can be critical to your overall success and happiness with your assignment. Always find out who your primary contact or support person is and find out what their background is. In some cases, your primary contact is not a clinician in the field, making it difficult for them to offer the assistance that is needed for daily therapeutic, diagnostic or procedural concerns. SLPS will always provide you with a support mentor who is a licensed therapist with experience in various public and private settings. SLPS has an extensive network of licensed therapists who communicate on a regular basis to assist one another, when needed.
- Gut instinct: It is important to go with your instinct. If you feel you are getting the “run around” or not getting answers to your questions you’re probably correct in your assumption. When starting a career, it is critical to do so on the right foot. If you don’t feel a connection with the person or agency you are dealing with and have a gut feeling about what you’re being told, think twice.
SLPS has built its reputation on honesty, straightforwardness, responsiveness, personal care, dependability and flexibility. We strive to remain a company that operates with integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
